We’re kicking off the new year with a classic style. Introducing our first Extra Special Bitter, or ESB, which releases this Friday in the Taproom and Beer Hall.
What makes this beer Extra Special? Traditionally, the “extra special” designation sets a brew apart as stronger than a “special” or “best” bitter. Strength is relative, and ESB remains very drinkable, largely in thanks to the balance between hop and malt character. Earthy, floral hop flavor abounds, but stays in check with caramel and nutty malt notes.
Speaking of malt, let’s introduce you to an extra special ingredient: Maris Otter malts. Introduced in the UK in 1966, Maris Otter malts rose to popularity throughout the 1970’s thanks to its richness of flavor. Since then, other malts with more favorable agricultural properties have become standard, but Maris Otter remains in demand for premium craft beer production. With a sip of ESB, you’ll understand why.
ESB releases in the Taproom and Beer Hall on Friday, so make sure to stop in and get the first taste of our first Brave New Brew of 2017! You’ll also be able to check out our First Friday artists– at the Taproom, see illustrations and paintings by Kat Morrow; at the Beer Hall, see photographer Josh Fiedler’s Travels series.
